The Koch Institute remembers — with admiration, affection, and gratitude — Jennifer C. Johnson, who passed away on May 15, 2017. The wife and partner of late Koch Institute Leadership Council member and MIT alumnus Charles W. Johnson (1955), Jen shared with Chuck a commitment to service, a love of family, friends, and community, and a passion for MIT. A self-described ‘domestic engineer,’ she was also a business owner and active in the Racine, WI community where she lived for many years, generously contributing her personal talents and generosity to numerous organizations.
It was Jen’s own experience with cancer that brought her and Chuck to the Koch Institute, which at the time was still in the planning stages. Although the Koch Institute faculty roster was not yet filled out, and the space currently occupied by Building 76 was still a parking lot, Jen and Chuck immediately understood the vision. Avid supporters, they offered thoughtful perspectives, valuable advice, and enthusiastic encouragement. They also established the Charles W. and Jennifer C. Johnson Cancer Research Fund, to support the Koch Institute’s Clinical Investigator Program and other initiatives, as part of their MIT philanthropy. Jen and Chuck formed lasting connections with many members of the Koch Institute and MIT communities, and will be remembered here as true friends and partners.
