Prizes & lectures

The Koch Institute celebrates exceptional work at all levels of the research enterprise, and throughout the cancer research community. Through annual keynote lectures and other high visibility opportunities to recognize researchers at all stages of their careers, we encourage trainees, faculty, and research staff to learn from experts in the field as well as from each other.  

With support from generous donors whose lives have been touched by cancer, we are able to offer a range of programming for members of the Koch Institute community to expand their view of what is possible for cancer research and for themselves.  

Prizes and Lectures

Amon Award 

The Angelika Amon Young Scientist Award is awarded annually to two graduate students from institutions outside the United States who embody a lifelong passion for fundamental biology and discovery science.

Boveri Medal 

Honoring the pioneering research and leadership of MIT’s first female graduate in biology, the Marcella O’Grady Boveri Student Cancer Research Medal is awarded annually to an MIT senior who has conducted significant cancer research in a Koch Institute laboratory.

Hockfield Cancer Research Prize 

The Hockfield Cancer Research Prize is awarded annually to a woman who has made significant contributions to cancer research or cancer advocacy, and to mentorship of women in the field. 

Karches Prize 

The Peter Karches Mentorship Prize recognizes the critical guidance and support trainee mentors provide in creating a new generation of interdisciplinary and collaborative cancer research leaders. 

Lippard Lecture 

An invited keynote lecture by a prominent researcher working on women’s cancers honors the memory of Judith Ann Lippard at the Koch Institute and the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center.
