KI members spent much of the spring accumulating accolades. Robert Weinberg was awarded the Salk Institute Medal for Research Excellence<, an honor bestowed only twice before in the Salk Institute's 55-year history. MIT President Emerita Susan Hockfield received an honorary degree from Northeastern University. Robert Langer received the Benjamin Franklin Medal and is one three U.S. finalists for the European Inventor Award. Finally, KI members David Sabatini and Hidde Ploegh were among four MIT faculty elected to the National Academy of Sciences, and Stephen Lippard was elected to the American Philosophical Society.
