Part-time instructor needed

MIT’s Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research is looking for 1-2 part-time instructor(s) to teach pre-developed middle and high school level workshops about cancer research at MIT for visiting student groups from January to August 2023. Teaching responsibilities include delivering presentations and facilitating hands-on activities about cancer biology and engineering, and leading tours of the Koch Institute Public Galleries and research facilities. Administrative responsibilities include set up and breakdown of all workshops, as well as coordination with group leaders and regular communication with the KI’s Outreach Manager, who supervises the position.

The ideal candidate will have a background in biology or biomedical engineering and a strong interest in science communication. Experience teaching STEM topics at the pre-college level in formal and/or informal education settings is required. Schedule is variable with groups visiting between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Anticipated time commitment is 5-15 hours per week depending on the number of workshops booked; not all weeks will have bookings. Schedule will be set at least 2 weeks in advance, although flexibility is appreciated. Hourly rate is $18-$22 based on experience. Training will be provided at the hourly rate and established instructors may have the opportunity to add on hours for new workshop development. Position is temporary, not eligible for benefits or parking; the Koch Institute is accessible by public transportation.

To apply, please send a cover letter and resume to kigalleries@mit.edu outlining your interest and experience. References may be requested before hiring. Employment is conditional upon the successful completion of a background check.
