Glenn received his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Animal Science from the University of Maine. His first exposure to flow cytometry came as an intern at the Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine. As a summer student working on viable moth eaten mice, he came to understand the speed and power of flow cytometry. Studying a thymic homing defect in these mice meant counting thousands of cells.  Flow cytometry could do the same work in a tiny fraction of the time with much higher accuracy. After graduating, Glenn worked at Tufts University for three years working on numerous projects involving flow cytometry. He came to MIT’s Center for Cancer Research Flow Cytometry Core in 1990 as a technician. Less than two years later, he became the Core manager and has stayed on in this role ever since growing the facility from two instruments to the current 13 instruments in a state of the art facility. Glenn recognized the struggle new flow cytometrtists experienced when they entered the field so he became a founding member of the New England Cytometry group whose sole purpose is flow cytometry education. Beside his science career, Glenn enjoys most sports and anything to do with being outdoors. Hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, and kayaking are all activities that take up his time away from the laboratory.
